Halloween in New York Isn't Subtle, and Midtown Proves It

Written by Pearl Hotel | 10.5.2026

Halloween in New York does not need much encouragement. By October 31, costumes spill onto sidewalks, Broadway marquees glow above people dressed as movie characters, and ordinary Midtown streets become part of the night's theater. You can certainly head downtown for the famous parade, but you do not have to spend the entire evening in the Village to experience Halloween in New York City.

For travelers staying at The Pearl Hotel, Midtown offers a useful advantage: you can build much of your Halloween itinerary around the Theater District and Hell's Kitchen, then take a straightforward subway ride downtown for the city's biggest spectacle.

Start with Broadway's Halloween Spirit

One of the easiest ways to experience Halloween in NYC without committing to a nightclub is The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54. The Broadway production has two performances on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., and the official production site has announced a Halloween costume parade for the matinee plus a limited-edition poster for the evening performance.

Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street is roughly 0.4 miles from The Pearl Hotel, making it about an 8-minute walk. The late performance works particularly well if you want to spend the afternoon sightseeing, head downtown for the parade, and return to Midtown for a distinctly theatrical Halloween finale.

Look for Ghosts Between the Broadway Marquees

Midtown's theater history supplies an extra layer that most Halloween itineraries overlook. The New Amsterdam Theatre, at 214 West 42nd Street, has one of Broadway's most enduring ghost stories. Olive Thomas, a former Ziegfeld Follies performer, reportedly haunts the theater, and Playbill has documented the long-running tradition surrounding her supposed appearances.

The theater sits about a 10-minute walk from The Pearl Hotel. You do not need a special ghost tour to appreciate the story. Walk past the theater before or after another Broadway outing and look up at one of Times Square's oldest theatrical landmarks.

The Belasco Theatre offers another documented piece of Broadway lore. The Shubert Organization notes that David Belasco lived in a duplex apartment above the theater and that, after his death, the building became associated with rumors that his ghost remained there. At 111 West 44th Street, the Belasco sits approximately 0.5 miles from The Pearl, or about a 10-minute walk.

See the Village Halloween Parade Without Staying Downtown

The Halloween parade in New York remains the city's signature Halloween spectacle. The 53rd Annual New York's Village Halloween Parade takes place Saturday, October 31, at 7 p.m., traveling north along Sixth Avenue from Canal Street to West 15th Street. Spectators can watch for free, while people who want to march must wear costumes. The parade features giant puppets, more than 50 bands, dancers, artists, and thousands of costumed participants.

From The Pearl Hotel at 233 West 49th Street, the northern end of the parade near West 15th Street is approximately 1.5 miles away. Walking takes about 30 minutes, while a rideshare can take roughly 10–20 minutes depending on Halloween traffic and street closures.

For a simpler trip, take the subway downtown rather than relying on a car. The Pearl sits within two blocks of the N, R, W, 1, C, and E trains, giving guests several ways to reach lower Manhattan. Arrive early if you want a good viewing position, because Sixth Avenue becomes extremely crowded.

Keep the Night Going in Midtown

If you would rather stay close to the hotel, 54 Below offers The 3rd Annual Spooky Spectacular at 9:30 p.m. on October 31. The one-night concert features Broadway and national-tour performers and combines Halloween songs with live cabaret energy. Tickets start at $19.50 before the venue's food-and-beverage minimum.

The venue is only about 0.3 miles from The Pearl Hotel, less than a 10-minute walk. That makes it an especially convenient choice after dinner or as an alternative to the parade.

For a much bigger late-night scene, The Haunted Festival takes over HK Hall at 605 West 48th Street from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. The four-floor, 30,000-square-foot event features DJs, immersive production, costumes, and multiple music environments. It is approximately 0.9 miles from The Pearl, or a 15-minute walk. Organizers recommend buying tickets in advance for this 21+ event.
